For Permanent Fuller Lips

The appearance of your skin is affected by the strength and elasticity of the natural collagen support layer beneath it.  Over time, this support layer weakens and facial creases and furrows appear.  Ultrasoft™ facial implant is a subdermal implant that helps to eliminate these creases and furrows by providing structure and support underneath the skin.

What Is the Ultrasoft facial implant?

The Ultrasoft facial implant is a persistent yet removable facial implant for the treatment of deep facial furrows or creases such as nasolabial folds (creases between the nose and the corner of the mouth), deep frown lines and definition of the vermilion border (the border surrounding the lips). The implant substantially corrects the furrow or crease.

What Is the Ultrasoft facial implant made of?

The Ultrasoft facial implant is a soft, tube-shaped implant made of a biocompatible polymer called ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene).  The ePTFE polymer is a proven material that has been used for more than 20 years in a variety of medical applications that includes the replacement of deteriorated blood vessels in over 3.5 million people, hernia repair, abdominal wall reinforcement and, subsequently, for soft tissue augmentation of the face.

How does it work?

The Ultrasoft implant helps to eliminate deep facial creases and furrows by providing structure and support beneath the skin.  The Ultrasoft facial implant helps to reduce the depth of the crease or furrow by raising the crease or furrow to the level surrounding skin.

Can the procedure leave a scar?

As with any surgical procedure, there are associated risks and benefits and the possibility of scarring.  In order to place each implant, two small incisions approximate ¼ of an inch in size must be made in the skin.  Although there will be scars at these incision sites, over time they usually become unnoticeable.

How long will it take to see results?

While you will see results immediately, swelling does occur and final healing takes approximately 3-4 months.  Usually, within 5-7 days following the implantation, most people will not be able to tell that you have had a procedure.

How long will the results last?

The Ultrasoft facial implant is a permanent material.  It will remain in the area in which it was placed unless you choose to have it removed.  As you age, furrows may slowly reappear over time.

How does Ultrasoft differ from other fillers and injectables?

Ultrasoft is a subdermal implant that helps to eliminate deep furrows by providing structure and support underneath the skin.  It is a persistent material, which is not absorbed or broken down by the body over time.

Filler materials, such as Cosmoplast, JUVÉDERM Injectable Gel , Radiesse and fat injections reduce wrinkles by “filling in” the lines and wrinkles just under the surface of the skin. These fillers and fat are gradually absorbed by the body and need to be re-injected.

Who is a candidate for Ultrasoft?

Ultrasoft implant is best suited for someone with pronounced facial creases or furrows who is seeking lasting results.  Ultrasoft implant is not an appropriate treatment for fine, superficial lines.  Prior to treatment you will discuss, in consultation with Dr. Ablon, whether you are an appropriate candidate for the Ultrasoft facial implant procedure.

What is involved with the procedure?

Treatment consists of a simple in-office procedure done under a local anesthetic.  The implant is inserted below the surface of the skin through two small incisions that can be camouflaged if needed.  Small sutures will hold the implant in place and should be removed in 7 to 10 days.  The procedure generally takes less than ½ hour, but will vary depending on the number of implants used.

How will my face look and feel after the procedure?

You may experience some swelling or bruising, which usually lasts for a few days up to two weeks following treatment.  Many patients return to normal activities the day after treatment as these effects may be partially camouflaged with cosmetics.

Some patients experience a sensation of tightness in the implanted area for approximately 5 to 7 days.  You will always be able to “feel” the implant under your skin, although, this should decrease over time.
